Jules Throne – Albums of the Year 2017
Every year I seem to start this introduction by saying what a great one it’s been for music and it’s fair to say that 2017 is no exception!
With many of the big hitters releasing albums this year (Electric Wizard, Elder, Pallbearer etc) it was always going to be a difficult task to pick my top ten albums! However, picking the top 5 was relatively easy as the albums in question have most definitely been my “go to” listening material since they were released.
So with no further ado, here in reverse order are my top ten albums of 2017.
8. Brume – Rooster
Continuing on the animal record naming theme after the promising debut EP “Donkey”, San Francisco’s Brume released one of the best doom albums of 2017. Produced by the legendary Billy Anderson this album sounds great throughout with Susie McMillan’s enchanting vocals swirling over and around Jamie McCathie’s Yob influenced riffing and the sonic backbeat provided by Jordan Perkins-Lewis. Their set was another highlight at Desertfest and hopefully we’ll see them on our shores again in 2018.
