Continuing on the animal record naming theme after the promising debut EP “Donkey”, San Francisco’s Brume released one of the best doom albums of 2017... Their set was another highlight at Desertfest and hopefully we’ll see them on our shores again in 2018.
What a rich, luscious album this is! Burning with passion and aching with sensuous depth, Brume’s debut album is an atmospheric doom metal experience that transcends pure doom metal. With a psychedelic heart and a love of The Riff, the songs on Rooster merge atmosphere and heaviness with style and substance.
Other local heavy groups, like Brume and Body Void, offer contrasting approaches to atmospheric doom metal. Brume fuses doom's heaviness to sprawling, psychedelic compositions, while Body Void layers its songs with abrasive noise.
